platform game update

finished implementing a couple things in the “garden gnome” platform game:

–player fires a projectile that activates certain triggers
–high-bouncing “springboards” that help the player jump higher when the jump button is pressed
–platforms that appear based on whether or not the player shoots the trigger
–two additional levels, implementing the triggers and high jumps
–full-screen game play and general performance increase; the game lags much less.

controls:
move with the ARROW keys. jump with the CTRL key (holding it longer results in a higher jump). fire your projectile with the SHIFT key.

a tale of monkeys

the following is an audio recording of a short chinese folk tale called “monkey man and wife.” it was recorded in my bedroom on tuesday, 18th december, 2007, at approximately 10:30pm. it took about ten minutes to complete the recording, editing, and music mixing.

download the recording here.

the text is from a collection of chinese folk tales called lady in the picture, copyright 1993, chinese literature press, panda books.

the accompanying music is a live recording of newagehillbilly/alex strama playing an original composition entitled “weight of millions.” it was recorded sunday, 25th november, 2007 by jeff ‘the librarian” mewbourn.

near death; new game

i was incredibly, incredibly ill yesterday. perhaps it was a combination of the band show friday night, the late-night cabaret on saturday evening, and the fact i’d only made a half-assed effort to eliminate the cold i’d somehow contracted on wednesday or so…i finally buckled down and bought a box of those tissues with the lotion in them since every time i blew my nose, it felt like a cheese grater against my face. i also picked up some of those zinc lozenges. i may have this beat by new year’s, which will be ideal.

in the meantime, as i was sick at home all day yesterday, i worked on a platform game engine. the tutorial was found on the clickteam website, and i tweaked it only a little from the included basics. the current version of the platformer i made has a little garden gnome running around inside an ice cave, trying to collect the cake hidden behind a locked door. pick up the keys to open the door and take the cake.
