BIKE ODYSSEY BENEFIT 2010
Celebrate countryside bicycling, a local shelter, and live music all at once!  The Bike Odyssey Benefit 2010 is a unique resource-raising event for Heart’s Place Shelter, the only Baltimore shelter that houses men, women, and children in an effort to keep homeless families united.  Support the work of this great shelter at 2640 on Friday, May 14th, by coming to the BOB…Live music and entertainment from local Baltimore performers (gypsy-folk-rock gods Good Guise, boot-stompin’ geetar-pickers Bobby E. Lee & The Sympathizers , and old-timey cover barons Wild Bonerz!), food and drink, raffles, and more!

Doors open at 8pm, and admission is a sliding scale of $6 to $10.  Special discounted price of $5 for those who bring in donations of underwear, bed linens, and towels for use at the shelter and by their guests.

WHAT IS THE BIKE ODYSSEY BENEFIT?
The BOB 2010 is a fund-raising and supplies drive for Heart’s Place Shelter, a family shelter at 2640 St. Paul Street in Baltimore, MD. A small group of dedicated bicyclists will ride from Baltimore to Ocean City, MD, over the course of about three days.

HOW ARE THE BIKES AND SHELTER CONNECTED?
By supporting BOB 2010, you’ll be supporting the shelter. We’re hosting a benefit show with live music and entertainment at the 2640 Space in mid-May where all proceeds go to the shelter, as well as making collections of various supplies for shelter residents. In addition, those unable to make it to the fund-raiser benefit show are invited to “pledge per mile” for the bike trip, which takes place in early June.

SO WHAT’S WITH THIS BIKE TRIP THING, ANYWAY?
The route will be approximately 175 miles in length, with only a small portion (the Hatem Bridge in Havre de Grace, MD) being by motor vehicle. The route spans about 2.5 days of bicycling through picturesque Maryland countryside. A gracious relative of one of the riders has offered us free lodging in Ocean City once we arrive, so we’ll have a relaxing four-day stay to rest and recuperate after our trip. AND TO EAT FUNNEL CAKE. Various gracious automobile-drivers will drive us home at the end of the week.

Current riders are Steve (who did this ride solo in 2008), Sam (of MS Bike fame) and Anton & Boson (of the Velocipede Bike Project).
HOW CAN I HELP?
Attend and/or offer donations of underwear, bed linens, and towels for shelter residents at the BOB 2010 event on Friday, 14th May at 2640 Space. Pledge a few cents per mile for the Bike Odyssey 2010 ride.
